Belize

Belize Is An independent Commonwealth on the eastern coast of Central America

Belize is bordered on the north by Mexico, on the south and west by Guatemala, and on the east by the Caribbean Sea. Its mainland is about 180 miles long and 68 miles wide.

Belize has an area of 8,800 square miles and a population of roughly 387,000. It has the lowest population and population density in Central America. Belize is also the only English speaking country in all of Central America. You will hear plenty of other languages while traveling in Belize, including Kriol, which is a unique language to Belize. However, English is the first language of Belize. More than half of the population throughout Belize is multilingual speaking more than two languages.

Belize’s abundance of terrestrial and marine species and its diversity of ecosystems give it a key place in the globally significant Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. The reef that borders Belize to the East is the second largest in world, next to the Great Barrier Reef.
